Fred E. Tibbetts III

Fred Ernest Tibbetts III, age 84, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Hanah B.G. Shaw Home for the Aged in Middleborough. Born in Boston on Monday July 8, 1940, and raised in Marion, MA, Fred later settled in Lakeville where he lovingly raised his family. He was the son of the late Fred Ernest Tibbetts Jr and Helen (Burke) Tibbetts. He is survived by his wife Donna (Howell) Tibbetts and their sons Joseph Tibbetts and Matthew Tibbetts, grandchildren Joseph Tibbetts Jr., Caroline Tibbetts, and Abigail Tibbetts, and sister Stephanie Capizzo.

Fred earned his Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1963 and pursued his passion for science by overseeing the laboratory at Tibbetts Engineering Corporation until 1986. In the mid-80’s, Fred was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, yet he embraced retirement, cherishing moments with his family, indulging in music both as a listener and player, and remaining an active member of the Central United Methodist Church in Middleborough. His devotion to his beloved wife Donna was paramount throughout his life.

Memorial visitation for Fred will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 11:00AM - 12:00PM, at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347, followed by a Memorial service at starting at 12:00PM.
