Robert Kendall Obituary

WWII Veteran and ex-POW Robert Clayton Kendall, 98, of Plymouth and Lakeville, MA died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday March 20th. He was the proud and dedicated husband of Elizabeth (Serian) Kendall for 61 years until she passed away in 2019.

Robert was born on Monday, July 6, 1925, to Ralph R. and Florence E. Kendall in Worcester, MA where he grew up. Robert joined the US Army at age 18 and was deployed overseas to fight in World War II. He was captured by German ground forces in 1944 and was held as a prisoner of war in Bad Orb, Germany. After surviving the war, Robert went on to attend the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where he was a member of the University Men's Choir and graduated in 1950 with a degree in biology. After college, Robert worked for Cluett, Peabody and Co. where he met his future wife, Elizabeth. Robert and Elizabeth moved to Plymouth, MA where he owned and operated Plymouth Men’s Shop. He later went on to work for the US Post office until his retirement. Robert was known for his strong love for music, especially jazz, his passion for gardening, and his love for all animals.

Robert leaves several loved ones in Massachusetts and New York. In addition to his wife, Robert was predeceased by his sister and best friend, Bethe Moiles. He is survived by a son Eric and his wife Angela of Lakeville, MA. He was a proud Grandpa to four grandchildren: Jenna, Addisyn, Leanne, and Eldan. He also leaves nieces and nephews Susan Moiles of Worcester, MA, Sharon Gallagher and Lisa Iozzi of Brigantine NJ, Chris Moiles and family of Waldoboro, ME and Geoffrey Gallagher of Drexel Hill, PA, in addition to several others.

A graveside service with military honors for Robert will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 11:30 AM.
