John J. Antonowitch, 93 of West Bridgewater, MA died May 23, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health.  He was the husband of Mary (Santoro) Antonowitch who passed away in 2008.  They were married for 67 years and had lived in Braintree, MA for 50 years. 

Born November 9, 1921 in South Boston he was the son of the late Gustantino and Eleanora Antonowitch.

In his younger years he lived in the West End of Boston and his first job was as a metal scraper in a machine shop.  At the age of 17 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in Colorado and helped build dirt dams and worked with soil conservation. He then went into the U.S. Navy serving in WW II in the Construction Battalion mostly serving in the South Pacific.  He later worked at Walter Baker Chocolate Factory for 20 years and as a Security Guard at the Polaroid Corporation.  He enjoyed going with his friends to the North End for pizza and beer and taking his son John, Jr. to Nantasket Beach.

He is survived by his son John J. Antonowitch, Jr. and his wife Robin; several grand children; 1 great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.  He was also the brother of Anthony, Stanley, Edward, Walter, Joseph and Frances

John’s word of advice to the younger generation was “Do not drink and respect your parents”.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St., Lakeville, MA.

Visitation will take place on Monday 1-hour prior to the service from 10 – 11 AM.  Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15 PM.
