Sylvia Ellen (“DeeDee”) Ellis passed away on March 31, 2016 at the age of 58 in Burlington, VT.

DeeDee was born on February 24, 1958 to William Oren Tower and the late Thelma Louise (Bourne) Tower in Brockton, Massachusetts.  DeeDee graduated from Avon High School in 1976, obtained her nursing degree from Southeastern, and spent the majority of her career as a nurse in Massachusetts.

DeeDee raised her three sons, Brian, Scott, and Joshua Ellis, in Lakeville. She loved being on the water in Newport, Rhode Island, and, most recently, in Lake Livingston and Galveston, Texas.

Cooking her sons’ favorite childhood dishes—including cherry tarts and date kisses—and passing on these special recipes and traditions to her boys brought her tremendous joy.  The world is an inferior place without the food that DeeDee cooked and lovingly shared. She was a proud mother and grandmother, known affectionately as “Grammy” by her grandchildren, who will miss her cheerful voice during the weekend phone calls that she cherished.

DeeDee is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law: Brian and Beth Ellis of El Paso, TX, Scott and Nikki Ellis of Houston, TX, and Josh and Maureen Ellis of Middleboro, MA; her six grandchildren: Connor and Caden, Cameron and Ethan, and Katie and Patrick; her seven brothers and sisters: Linda Bridgwood of Raynham, MA, Rev. Patricia Jackman of Pittsford, VT, Cynthia Tower of Tamworth, NH, William Tower Jr of Citrus Heights, CA, Thalia Tower of Lakeville, MA, George Tower II of Taunton, MA, and Jo-el Tower of Avon, MA; her father and his wife, William Oren and Elsa (Jeffery) Tower of Rutland, VT and many nieces and nephews. She was incredibly loved and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at The Central Square Congregational Church, UCC (71 Central Square) in Bridgewater, MA at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016. DeeDee’s sister, the Rev. Patricia Jackman, will officiate.  Doors will open at 10:00 a.m. for visitation.

A short gravesite burial service will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery (653 Palmer Rd) in Plympton, MA immediately following the memorial service. A reception will follow.

DeeDee was a very special woman and friend to me. I will miss her smiles and playing Words with Friends with her. Amazingly as I look back, there were few times that her intelligence didn't beat me!

I will think of DeeDee often, say a prayer, and know that she is resting in peace.
