Music by The Piano Brothers

Guntis Reks, 83, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2016 surrounded by family at home in Lakeville, MA.

Born in Aluksne, Latvia, to the late Arvids and Elza Reks, he lived most of his life in Mansfield.  He was the beloved husband to the late Monika Reks and dearest husband to Nancy Eames of Mansfield.

He was the loving father to Elmars Reks of Assonet, Zinta  Betts  and her husband Kenneth of Lakeville, and Guntars Reks and his wife Joanne of Berkley. He was also the adoring grandfather of 8 grandchildren- Eriks, Andis, Talis, Katrina, Larisa, Kassandra, Krisjanis, Monika and 3 great-grandchildren- Emmelina, Ole and Laila.  He is also survived by his brother Modris Reks and his wife  Lilija of Freedom, NH and was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews.

In his childhood years, Guntis, with his parents and his older brother, immigrated from Latvia, through Germany, to the United States, first to Mississippi and then ultimately to the Boston area.  He enlisted and proudly served in the United States Army from 1951 – 1953.  He was an active member in the Jamaica Plain Latvian Lutheran Church, the American Latvian Association and the Daugavas Vanagi Latvian Association in Boston.

Guntis was a carpenter by trade and owned his own home building company for many years. With a strong work ethic, he built many homes.  Including a beach house in Fairhaven on West Island where the extended family would gather each summer.  But, ultimately, the favorite one he built was his vacation home in Rangeley, ME.  There, over many years, he enjoyed, skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, swimming, golf and just spending time with family and friends over evening card games.

Funeral service to be held at Congregational Parish, 5 W Main St, Norton, MA at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

Visiting hours to be held at Dalhborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St, Lakeville, MA from 4:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 28, 2016
