Harry M. Quimby, Jr., 89 years of Brockton, husband of Dorothy M. (Perkins) Quimby, died Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater following a brief illness.

Born August 16, 1927 in Boston, he was the son of the late Harry M. Quimby, Sr. and Esther L. (Fisher) Quimby, and was a 1946 graduate of South Boston High School. Harry served in the US Navy during WWII and Korea. He moved to Bridgewater in 1947 and resided in Brockton since 1954 where he and his wife raised their six children.

After his retirement from Shaw’s Supermarkets Distribution Center he resided seasonally in Moultonboro, NH serving with his wife as a volunteer at the Geneva Point Conference Center for 20 years. He enjoyed camping, was an avid reader and jigsaw puzzle enthusiast and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.  

He was a member of Christ Congregational Church, U.C.C. of Brockton.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Dorothy, he is survived by his six children; Patricia (Quimby) Merianos and her husband Peter of Brockton, Susan (Quimby) Tehranian and her husband Reza of Cohasset, Kathleen (Quimby) Walsh and her husband Stephen of Tiverton, RI, Cynthia (Quimby) Murphy and her husband William of Brockton, David  Quimby of Brockton and Steven Quimby and his wife Fernanda of Brockton; his thirteen grandchildren Sarah, Marc and Roseangela Merianos, Kayvon and Roxanne Tehranian, Benjamin and Andrew Walsh, Richard and Samantha Murphy, Brieanne (Murphy) Pereira and Kelsey, Abigail and Dale Quimby and one great grandchild, Damien Coleman, his sister Lynn Fowler of East Bridgewater and a nephew and several nieces. He was also the brother of the late Helen Gedutis.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Christ Congregational Church U.C.C., 1350 Pleasant Street, Brockton.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017. at 11 am at Christ Congregational Church, U.C.C.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in Harry’s memory to Christ Congregational Church, U.C.C., 1350 Pleasant Street, Brockton, MA 02301.

I may not have been a grandchild by blood, but I always felt like family with Harry. For the past ten years that I have known the family, I have always felt like a grandchild in the eyes of Harry and Dot, and I share in the mourning that everyone is going through. Harry, you will be missed, but never forgotten

so sorry for your loss of Harry. Great guy ! I have a lot of fond memories of you two at GPC. The ice cream store, the maintenance shop, the laundry, setting up tables, etc. Prayers go out to you and your family.
