Carol Lee (Cooke) Young, “Nana”, of North Quincy, Avon and Middleboro, passed away on Thursday, November 19th, one month before her 76th birthday, after a brave fight against cancer.  She was the loving wife of the late Paul F. Young, “Papa”, and the sister of Jack Cooke, Linda Truesdell and the late Jeanne Carter.  Her parents were the late John P. Cooke and Winifred (Gallagher) Cooke.

She is survived by her children, Rich Young, and his wife Sue Ripley-Young, Cathy Newman, and her husband Ronnie, Michael Young, and his wife Kelly.  She is the devoted Nana of Connor, Spencer, Alli and Josh, and the adopted Nana of Kim, Adam, Matt, Kels, Emily, Vern, T.J., Sarah, Jason, Whisper and Meg.  She will also be missed by her brothers and sisters in-law, Bobby, Walter, Phyllis, Dickie, Betty and Renee, and many nieces and nephews, including Stephen, Jenny, Tim, Laureen, Meghan, Michelle, Kevin, Brian, Walter, David, Robert and Kelly.

Carol grew up in North Quincy and graduated from North Quincy High School.  She and Paul were married in July, 1964, and they settled in Avon in 1968.  There, Carol taught CCD for St. Michael’s Church and was involved in many parent and sports booster activities for Cardinal Spellman High School where her children attended.  She was also “Mrs. Young”, the strict but caring teacher’s aide in the Avon Public School System, where she helped countless students during her 31 year career.

Nana loved to watch her grandchildren play sports.  She and Papa happily traveled together to countless hockey, soccer, lacrosse and baseball games in New Hampshire.  During the last decade, Nana could be found on the sidelines of various Middleboro games, enthusiastically cheering for her grandchildren and every one of their teammates while making friends with all of their parents.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020 from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St., Lakeville.  A funeral service will immediately follow at 6:00 pm.  Carol’s ashes will be interned at the National Cemetery in Bourne during a private service due to COVID restrictions.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her memory to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 906 North Main St., Brockton, MA 02301.
