Music by The Piano Brothers

Roger M. O’Shea passed away December 19, 2020 after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Marilyn W. O’Shea. Roger was born July 1, 1936 in Boston, MA to the late Thomas A. O’Shea and Helen (McGrath) O’Shea. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas A. O’Shea.

After graduating from St. Benedict’s College in Kansas, Roger served in the U.S. Navy. When stationed in Newport, Rhode Island, he met his future wife Marilyn. They were married for 49 years. After leaving the Navy he was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and worked in the areas of accounting and finance. During this time he also earned his Master’s in Public Administration from Northeastern University. For fourteen years Roger was the Assistant Director of Fiscal Affairs at Lakeville Hospital. Roger gave his time to the community in several ways. He served on the Finance Board and was also a member of the Lakeville Lions. He volunteered as a youth baseball and basketball coach. He also served as a lector as well as a Pre-Cana leader with Marilyn at St. Martha and Mary Parish in Lakeville.

Roger will most be remembered for his deep, hearty laugh, his love for the Red Sox and his enjoyment of “a good beer” (which was usually the one in his hand…).  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends: whether it was traveling with Marilyn, playing a round of golf, relaxing on the beach in Anna Maria with his grandchildren or manning the grill at pool parties in his backyard.

He is survived by three children:  Karen O’Shea Schaefer and her husband Jeffrey of Glen Rock, NJ; Michael R. O’Shea and Christopher J. O’Shea, both of Lakeville. He also will be greatly missed by his  grandchildren Emily and William. Other family survivors include:  his brother-in-law James P. Watterson and wife Barbara of Westport;  brother-in-law William Watterson of Portsmouth, RI and sister-in-law Nancy Watterson of Kentucky. He was also “Uncle Roger” to many nieces and nephews in both the O’Shea and Watterson families.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation - michaeljfox.org or to Lions International - lionsclubs.org.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday December 28, 2020 at 11:00 AM in Sts. Martha and Mary's Church, Lakeville, MA.

Roger was a dear friend and neighbor. We were always happy to have a chat with him after mass. Also many fond memories of teaching CCD and serving with him at mass over the years. Our deepest sympathy to all his family.
