John Langdon Corliss, Jr, 86, of Stoughton Massachusetts died Saturday, December 26, 2020 in Brockton after a brief period of failing health.  He was the husband of Ethel (Tess) M. (Folger) Corliss.

Born on November 13, 1934 in Whitman, MA, he was the son of the late John L. Corliss Sr. and the late Mary A. (Pundis) Corliss.  He attended schools in Abington, MA and he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1952.

John served proudly in the USMC from 1952 until he was Honorably Discharged in May, 1960.  He was stationed in the United States and, for three years, in Japan achieving the rank of Sergeant.  John earned the Marine Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.   He later worked at and retired from F. H. Peterson Machine Corp in Stoughton.  During his early retirement years, John was an early morning presence behind the counter at Bob's Famous Food Mart in Stoughton.  A true renaissance man, John was interested in many things.  He loved all kinds of technology and automation.  He was an early adopter of personal computing and their home was fully automated.  He enjoyed flying model planes and also had model train sets.  John loved to make clocks and he was an excellent baker and cook.  As recently as 2019, he still tended a small vegetable garden.

John also had a deep love and connection to his family, friends and neighbors, and his dogs.  He and Ethel went on many trips together and with others.  They welcomed their nieces and nephews to their cottage on Peddocks Island.  Over the years, they had several pets and collies came to have a special place in their hearts.  Most recently, John, Ethel and Duke shared many happy times together.

John is survived by his wife of 63 Years, Ethel, his much beloved collie, Duke and a great many nieces and nephews who loved him.  He will also be greatly missed by all of his neighborhood family.  He was the brother of the late Leonard M. Corliss.

A Graveside Service will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 1:00 P.M.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
