Alexander Ferguson Obituary

Alexander “Sandy” Alfred Ferguson, age 79, husband of the late Julie-Anne (Gundersen) Ferguson, passed away peacefully at his home in Lakeville after a long battle with cancer on Saturday September 18, 2021. Born in Boston, on Wednesday August 5, 1942, he was the son of the late Alfred Clarke and Annabel (MacKenzie) Ferguson. He was known by all as “Sandy”, his Scottish nickname. Growing up in Roslindale, he graduated from Roslindale High School class of 1961, before joining the United States Navy as a aviation technician. Following his honorable discharge in 1964, Sandy went to work at the Gerson Company where he met the love of his life Julie-Anne. They would be married in August of 1971 and lived in Middleborough with their son James. They bought land in Lakeville where he spent most of his free time building the house that they would later call their home. In 1973 they moved in where they would spend the rest of their lives. After Gerson, he worked at Rochester Environmental Park until his retirement. Sandy was a 50+ year member of the Middleboro Elks Lodge where he thoroughly enjoyed all. Also, he was a longtime member of the Mitchell Memorial Club and the American Legion. Every year during hunting season, one could always find Sandy in Maine. He loved Maine so much that he and a few friends bought land and built a cabin, which would then become his home away from home. In addition to his passion for hunting, Sandy also enjoyed fishing, gardening, stamp collecting, sports, billiards and candlepin bowling. A passion for bowling that was shared by their mother with her sons. The brothers later formed a team called the “Ferguson Flounders”. Sandy had many circles of friends which he remained close to throughout his life. He will be fondly remembered and missed by all that knew him. Sandy is survived by his son James McPartlan, sister Janet Carew, brother Ralph Ferguson and his wife Christine, in-laws Marietta Weiner and her husband Richard, Richard Gundersen and his wife Louise, and Joan Gundersen, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Sandy was predeceased by his brother Hugh Ferguson and brother-in-laws Hilton Carew, Robert, Gary, and William Gundersen.
