Arthur Bumpus Jr. Obituary

Arthur J. Bumpus, Jr. passed away peacefully in Weymouth, Massachusetts, on November 23, 2025, at the age of 81.

Born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, Arthur was the son of the late Arthur J. Bumpus and Arlene (Weston) Bumpus. He was the beloved brother of Donna and her husband William Driscoll of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts; Wayne Bumpus and his wife Paula of Anchorage, Alaska; and the late Stephen Bumpus.

Arthur dedicated his life to education and science. He worked at Shaw's Supermarkets through college and for many years beyond, before beginning a remarkable teaching career. He taught science at Randolph High School for approximately 40 years, serving as Department Head of the Science Department until his retirement. He also taught Rocketry at the College Academy at Stonehill College and served as a professor at Massasoit Community College, the Brockton School of Nursing, and Fisher College, where he taught Anatomy and Physiology. He earned his Master's Degree from Bridgewater State College.

Arthur had a lifelong love of space and science, and he delighted in fiction mysteries. His favorite color was green, and he was proudly left‑handed.

He was devoted to his family. Arthur was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Teri-Ann Bumpus, who passed away on July 12, 2025. He is survived by his eldest daughter, Bonnie M. Wortham of Florida, her husband Terrell, and their children: James Pilkenton, Jackie Pilkenton, Abigail Wortham, Joel Wortham, and Leah Wortham. He is also survived by his youngest daughter, Brandy N. Straka, her husband Ian, and their children, Nikolaos A. Sedell and Alexandros C. Sedell. Arthur will also be remembered for his special bond with his "God Dog," Louie.

Arthur's legacy is one of love, patience, and strength. He gave so much of himself to his family, his students, and his community. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Above all else, he cherished his wife, his daughters, and his grandchildren, who were his greatest pride and joy.

A lifelong educator, he touched countless lives as a professor. Wherever he went - hospitals, appointments, or rehabilitation centers - former students would stop to share their gratitude, remembering him as an inspiring teacher who gave knowledge freely and left a lasting mark.

Family traditions were at the heart of his life. He was deeply proud of his daughter Bonnie for all she accomplished and the many ways she contributed to her family and community. He especially treasured visiting with his daughter Brandy and Louie, his beloved "God Dog." Those simple moments of chatting, laughing, and spoiling Louie brought him immense joy.

Arthur was a man of patience and strength, always there for his family. His love was steady, his support unwavering. He fought courageously through rehabilitation, determined to return to the life he loved.

Arthur leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. He was proud of his family, and they were proud of him. His memory will live on in the lessons he taught, the traditions he created, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
