Catherine C. DeArruda (MacPherson), a South Boston native and resident of Lakeville passed away in her home on Wednesday June 23rd. Born on April 2nd 1919 the daughter of Angus and Mary (McEachern) MacPherson. Catherine spent her early life in South Boston she then married Dennis DeArruda in 1946 and the pair moved to Lakeville in 1950 with her husband where she resided until her passing. Catherine had quite a few jobs during her long life such as a waitress at the White Tower in Boston, a Riveter (as in Rosie the Riveters) during WWII on a naval ship, a nurse’s aide at the Lakeville and Taunton state hospitals and her most important job, mom to 5 children.  

She loved to spend time with family and friends, playing BINGO, word searches, jigsaw puzzles, bird watching, bagpipe music, senior trips and she belonged to the Lakeville Friendly Seniors Coalition.

Catherine was full of life and leaves behind a long legacy. She was strong. She was generous. She was loving. She touched everyone she met and she will be missed dearly.

Catherine is survived by her children, Barbara Ann Bradshaw, Larry and his wife Cindy DeArruda, Christine Covel and husband Robert and Daughter-in-law Donna Nault. Her brother Angus Joseph MacPherson and sister-in-law Lorraine MacPherson and Barbara MacPherson. Catherine was also survived by 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Angus and Mary MacPherson, her husband Dennis DeArruda, her sons George A. Nault and Dennis DeArruda Jr., son-in-law Kenneth L. Bradshaw, Her Brothers Jim, Bill, Neil, and John MacPherson and sister-in-law Marge MacPherson.

A graveside service for Catherine will be held on Friday July 16th at 12:30PM at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Middleboro, originally scheduled July 9, 2021.
