Claire Rousseau Obituary

Claire (Levesque) Rousseau, age 88, wife of Leopold “Leo” Rousseau for 65 years, passed away peacefully at her home in Lakeville, surrounded by her family on Sunday December 5, 2021. Born on Saturday January 7, 1933, in Fall River, MA, Claire was the daughter of the late Omer and Bernadette (Courtemanche) Levesque. Claire grew up in Fall River and graduated from BMC Durfee High School, class of 1951. She continued her education and followed her passion studying piano at the New England Conservatory of Music. Claire spent 49 years teaching children and adults alike. She fostered the love of music in many which is a legacy that has and will endure. She enjoyed following the lives and careers to many of her students and remained in touch with many. Claire’s passion for music extended to performing as she was an organist for many local churches of all denomination and even spent time as a choir director. She also traveled her region as an adjudicator for the National Guild of Piano Teachers where she enjoyed meeting teachers and pianist alike. Claire married the love of her life, Leopold “Leo” Rousseau in 1956. They had two devoted sons Michael and David. Together, Leo and Claire owned and operated Rousseau’s Recreation Rentals in Lakeville, MA, which is now entrusted to their son David. They spent many wonderful winters in Fort Myers Beach, FL, where they enjoyed the beautiful weather and many wonderful friends whom Claire kept in close contact with. Claire spent her leisure time enjoying many crafts including knitting, quilting, ceramics and the making of beautiful teddy bears all of which she has shared with family and friends. She enjoyed many gifts, but it was Claire’s love for her family that sustained her and gave her most pleasure. She has touched many lives in her 88 years. In addition to her loving husband Leo of 65 years, Claire is survived by, her two sons Michael Rousseau and his wife Anna, and David Rousseau and his wife Sheila, sister Pauline (Levesque) Cyr of Lakeville, 5 grandchildren Christopher, Mathew, Brandon, Felicia (Rousseau) Candella and her husband David, and Nicholas and his wife Amanda, 2 great grandchildren Scarlett and Summer, with another great grandchild on the way. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Claire was predeceased by her sister Louise (Levesque) Tavares, formerly of Fall River. Visitation for Claire will be held on Sunday December 12, 2021, from 4:00 – 7:00PM at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347. A funeral mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday December 13, 2021, at 10:00AM at Sts. Martha & Mary Catholic Church, 354 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347. Claire will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Middleboro, following the funeral mass.
