Constance V. (Wood) Murray

Constance Virginia (Wood) Murray, 92, of Lakeville, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 27th, 2022, following a period of declining health. Connie was born in Milton, MA on Saturday, December 7, 1929, to Charles A. Wood and Gladys (Phelps) Wood. She grew up in Holbrook, MA, attended Holbrook public schools and was a member of the Winthrop Congregational Church. As a girl her hobby was horseback riding. She also loved helping to care for her nieces and nephews and became a second mother to all nine after her sister-in-law passed away at a young age.

Connie lost her own mother at the tender age of 16. After graduating in 1947 they moved to Maine. It was while living in Maine that Connie met her future husband, Robert F. Murray Jr. of Brockton, MA. Bob’s parents were renting a cottage from Connie’s father in Gurnet, ME. After meeting her they told their son to "get up to Maine, Dorothy Lamour is living next door!" Bob obediently visited and fell head over heels for this beauty. He wooed her with his charm and fun-loving personality along with rides in his boat and Jeep.

Connie attended Westbrook Junior College and graduated in 1949 as a Medical Secretary. On July 9, 1949, Connie and Bob were married. They settled in Brockton, MA where they raised their 3 children. Connie became a member of Wendell Avenue Congregational Church and served as Choir Mom. She enjoyed annual family outings to Horseneck Beach which held special memories of trips with her father to visit relatives in Westport, MA.

In 2009 Connie and Bob moved to High Pond Estates in Bridgewater, MA. For the past 2 years Connie resided in Lakeville, MA with her daughter Linda and son in law Peter. Living there brought her so much happiness as she was able to visit with grandchildren and great grandchildren on a regular basis.

Connie's greatest enjoyment was her family and the special times they shared. Every summer the whole family vacationed at Bear Spring Camps on Great Pond in Maine. That tradition is still honored every year. She loved hosting holiday meals and insisted on preparing everyone’s favorite dishes.

Her family will be forever grateful to Connie for all the love and generosity she shared with them. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed. A special thank you to her niece, Debbie Wood, for all the love and support she gave to Connie throughout the years.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert F. Murray Jr., her brother William B. Wood, and her great-granddaughter Linley E. Menard. She is survived by her son Robert F. Murray lll, and his wife Cindy of Bethel, Maine, daughter Linda E. Landerholm and her husband Peter of Lakeville, MA, and daughter Debra S. Cross and her husband Wayne of Willis, TX, her sister Beverly Lindholm of Indio, CA, 15 grandchildren: Eric Menard of North Easton, MA,  Scott Murray of Ayer, MA, Lisa Westgate of Brockton, MA, Sarah Jensen of Hamstead, NH, Steven Murray of Munford, AL, Stephanie Murray of Falmouth, MA, Stewart Murray of Gray, ME, Sean Murray of Kingston, NH, Laurie Clulow-Landerholm of Lakeville, MA, Samantha Jennings of Lynnfield, MA, Heidi Sebren of Magnolia, TX, Jill Conroy of Hollis, NH, Spencer Murray of San Diego, CA, Robert F. Murray lV, of Gorham, ME, and Calum Murray of Sterling, MA. She also had 26 great-grandchildren!

Visiting hours for Constance will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347. Followed by a funeral service to be held at 12:00PM. Constance will be laid to rest with her late husband Robert at Northville Cemetery in East Bridgewater.
