Cynthia Van Deusen Obituary

Cynthia (Leonard) Van Deusen, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, surrounded by family and friends.  She was the loving wife of Fred Van Deusen for 57 years.

Born, raised and lived in Brockton she was the daughter of the late Beatrice (Carlson) and Albert P Leonard who were also lifelong residents of Brockton.

Cynthia passed away from an unexpected illness, but had been bravely living with Alzheimer’s for the past 4 years.  She was a 1955 graduate of Brockton High School and a Communicant of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brockton.  She worked for more than 30 years at Holmes McDuffy Florists, until her retirement a number of years ago.

In addition to her loving husband, Fred Van Deusen she is survived by her daughters Cathy Chaplic and Patricia Williams, with their husband’s Bill and Steve; loving and devoted grandmother to Marissa Pitts, Shannon Chaplic, and Heather Chaplic; sister of Dianne (Leonard) Lutton, and her husband Bob of Brockton, Elaine (Leonard) Millerd, and her husband Harris of Kentucky; an aunt and uncle, Mona and Ted Collum; a niece and several nephews and cousins. Cynthia also leaves her lifelong and dear friend Roberta Smith of Florida. She was predeceased by her very dear friend Maureen Tosches, and her goddaughter Barbara Mallett.

The family wants to thank the caregivers from Old Colony Hospice, so many wonderful, caring people who came to her home, it would be impossible to list them all.  We would also like to thank the caregivers from Home Instead, who spent time with mom over the past few years and helped support the family as we took care of her.  We especially want to thank Cathy, Trish, and Liz who spent many days and hours with mom.

Cynthia was a sweet, loving, kind person who possessed a fierce love for her family. She was a loyal friend and confidant.

In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA.
