Darlene Alice (Young) Carey

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Darlene Alice (Young) Carey, age 70, a beloved wife, cherished friend, and dedicated member of the Brockton community. Darlene departed this life on April 7, 2026, at Boston Medical Center-Brighton, following a decline in her health over the previous year.

Born on July 7, 1955, in Brockton, MA, Darlene was the treasured daughter of the late Forrest H. and Dorothy M. (Jenness) Young. She was a proud graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1973, and continued her education with coursework at Massasoit Community College. Darlene and her beloved husband, Christopher V. Carey, shared a devoted marriage of 43 years, during which they created countless happy memories together.

Darlene dedicated her professional life to the field of healthcare, working in registration for Goddard Medical Associates until her well-deserved retirement. Her caring nature extended far beyond her profession; she had a deep love for animals and took great joy in nurturing her cats and dogs at home. A woman of many talents, she found joy in drawing, crafting, gardening, and creating through her hands. Darlene's competitive spirit was evident in her love for miniature golf, where she often playfully triumphed over Chris.

In addition to her many accomplishments, Darlene was a certified Red Cross swimming instructor, passionately teaching children with disabilities how to swim alongside her cousin, Lynne. Her motto, "if I could do it, they could do it," reflected her unwavering belief in possibility and empowerment. Darlene was also a former communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brockton, where she contributed her time and talents to her faith community.

Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Christopher; her cousin, Donna Susi; her dear friend, Carol Robbins; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss her dearly.

Memorial visitation for Darlene will be on Monday April 20, 2026, from 4:00-7:00PM, at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Hom, 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347, followed by prayer service to conclude the visitation. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join in celebrating her remarkable life and the joy she brought to everyone around her.

In this time of loss, may we find solace in the memories we hold dear, and the indelible mark Darlene has left on our hearts. She will be deeply missed yet remembered with love and gratitude.
