David A. Crockett, aged 79 and husband of Barbara S. (Rood) Crockett, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the V.A. Boston Healthcare System in West Roxbury after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle. Born on March 6, 1945, in Longview, WA, David was a son to the late M. Dave Crockett and B. Gwendolyn (Hawley) Lowell. A Mount Rainer High School alumnus, he furthered his education at San Diego State and West Coast University, where he obtained a Master's in Business Administration. A longtime Middleborough, MA resident, David served as the area director for O.S.H.A. (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and later retired from Bechtel Construction as a safety and health engineer. A proud veteran, he served as a flight engineer in the United States Coast Guard from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. David was an enthusiastic reader, enjoyed riding his Harleys, and was passionate about woodcutting and dining out with friends. A life member of H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group), he was also the third great-grandson of Davy Crockett and belonged to the D.D.D.C. (Direct Descendants of Davy Crockett). He leaves behind his wife Barbara, son Troy Crockett and spouse Beth of Georgia, stepdaughters Kalen Samsel with partner Dennis Brolin of Foxborough, and Cindy Mace of Georgia, along with grandchildren Katherine Crockett, Samantha Kelley, Alex Samsel, Evan Samsel, and Scott Wainwright. His grandson David Robert preceded him in death. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 23, 2024, from 3:00-6:00 PM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347, with a prayer service to follow at 6:00 PM.
