Fernandes, David (Dave), 70, of Bradenton/Jacksonville, FL was born June 6, 1951, and raised in New Bedford, MA; the oldest of Anthony and Dorothy’s two children. David lived an active and full life until finally resting in peace surrounded by family on August 16, 2021. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School, a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, and earned degrees from Northeastern University (AS) and Emmanuel College (BS). After high school and college, David lived in Massachusetts for many years until relocating to California, the United Kingdom, France, Georgia, and more recently Florida.
He is survived by his sister Carolyn and husband Gerald Richard of Lakeville, MA; son Michael and wife Heather Fernandes of Middleboro, MA; son Nick Fernandes and fiancé Kelly Rhodes of Chicago, IL; daughter Anne Marie Fernandes of Los Angeles, CA; and son Thomas Fernandes of Atlanta, GA. He was the loving grandfather of Elizabeth and Brooke Fernandes of Middleboro, MA; beloved uncle to Bryan Richard of Homosassa, FL, and Brandon and wife Kelly Richard of Lakeville, MA, as well as many cherished, caring, and thoughtful cousins, friends, and colleagues (most recently at Swanson Tool Co.).
Dave loved to travel and his work in sales and logistics at companies such as Polaroid, Schenker and Swanson Tool Co., brought him around the world. He traveled to every state in the U.S. and over 40 countries during his professional and personal travels. Dave was an avid Boston and UGA sports fan, golfer (treasured outings with some of the PGA pros), active boater, and never turned down a sweet. He began every morning with a Chai Tea, as he had developed a taste for tea through his travels to Asia. He loved to get together with his children, friends, and colleagues, and catch a sports game or dinner.
Despite being diagnosed with kidney cancer in January 2021, David continued to work in his current role, receive treatment, and remain positive. Two of his more recent favorite memories came within the past year when his children came to visit him in Florida during February, and his children and grandchildren went to Disney World together in June shortly after his 70th birthday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cancer Research Institute (https://fundraise.cancerresearch.org/fundraiser/3402001) or The Jimmy Fund/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (http://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/goto/DavidFernandes) Private funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 @ 11:00AM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Bedford, MA.
