David Norman Smith, age 75, husband of Alice J. (Fillingim) Smith, and the late Patricia (Elliott) Smith, passed away Saturday October 16, 2021, after a brief illness. Born in Brockton, MA, on Thursday July 4, 1946, he was the son of the late Melbourne L. Smith and Ruth O. (Dickerman) Smith. David grew up in Holbrook, MA, graduating from Holbrook High School, class of 1964. A proud United States Air Force Veteran, David served his country from 1966-1969 during the Vietnam war. He and his wife Alice have been residents of Lakeville for the past 20 years, a big part of those 20 years was spent running the stable he and Alice ran together in Lakeville. David worked as an operating engineer for The Hallamore Corporation in Holbrook, MA, until he retired 10 years ago. When his children were younger, David volunteered as a Boy Scout leader, Troop 56, in Holbrook, MA. He was a board member of the South Shore Horseman’s Council, and would set and maintain the grounds for shows. He also was a member of the Holbrook Sportsman’s Club, and the Acushnet Rifle and Pistol Club. David loved to attend and watch dog shows, his favorite was the agility contest. An avid reader, David spent his free time reading his favorite novels. He also enjoyed shooting his rifles and pistols at the ranges of the clubs he belonged to. In addition to his wife Alice of 20 years, David is survived by his three children, Joshua D. Smith and his wife Lauren of Dunstable, MA, Daniel E. Smith and his wife Jessica of York, ME, Amy Riley and her husband Timothy of Attleboro, MA, two stepchildren, Julie Radulov of Revere, MA, and Sheryl Soundara of Lakeville, MA, five grandchildren with one on the way, which David was very happy to hear about, brother Donald Smith and his wife Dawn of Holbrook, MA, and sister Judith Dowling and her husband Michael of North Smithfield, RI, niece Andrea L. Viveiros, and his two dogs Zeke and Gus whom he loved to pieces. Visitation for David will be held on Monday October 25, 2021, from 4:00-7:00PM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347, immediately followed by a funeral service at 7PM. David will be laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA , on Tuesday October 26, 2021 at 11:15AM.
