Dennis Brienzo Obituary

Dennis M. Brienzo, 82, of Lakeville, passed away peacefully at Morton Hospital on Friday, October 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Leona A. (Fearing) Brienzo for 60 years.

In addition to his loving wife Leona, Dennis is survived by his daughter, Leigh A. Brienzo, who became his biggest cheerleader, encouraging him to push forward, taking care of his medical needs, Ilir Z. who was with him to the end and was like a son-in-law to him; John DeMoura Jr. who was very special to him.

Born in Acushnet, he was the son of the late Mikelino and Irene (LeBeau) Brienzo. Dennis graduated from Monsignor Coyle High School and Emerson College and served in the United States Army National Guard. He worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for a number of years. Dennis was a lifelong banker starting his career as a branch manager at the age of 23 at Taunton Savings Bank, then The New Bedford Institution for Savings in New Bedford. He did marketing for People Savings Bank and the East Weymouth Savings Bank becoming vice president of Charleston Savings Bank in Boston.

He was the past treasurer of Churchill Shores Associates of Lakeville, Inc. for over 20 years, running events with his family for the association such as dances, bingos, potluck suppers, and annual events. As a young man he started the chicken barbeque at Sts. Martha and Mary Church. A loyal Dad, he spent many long hours waiting for the kids to get done with dance class, CCD, majorette practice and competitions. He never missed one of the kids events. Dennis enjoyed many concerts. His favorites were Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Mitzi Gaynor, and IL Divo. Vacations, especially to Las Vegas, California, and our drive to Florida were his favorites. He also enjoyed spending time loving the family cats.

An avid card player, Dennis was a member of the American Contract Bridge League, earning status of Ruby Life Master. He had fond memories of playing bridge at the Classy Senior Bridge Club. He won many championships and trophies. He and his wife met while playing Whist and played at card parties for many years.

Dennis was a contestant on the “Wheel of Fortune” and the "Price is Right" winning a new car and the showcase. He also appeared in several of the Farrelly brothers films including, "There's Something about Mary", and "Me, Myself, and Irene", attending the premieres with his wife and daughter, Leigh.

He is also survived by his daughter, Bette L. Gilmore of Boston; 2 grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
