Donald James McAssey, age 60, of Middleboro, MA, passed away on Saturday December 11, 2021, at his sisters home in Carver, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy battle with C.O.P.D. Born in Wareham, MA, on Monday December 4, 1961, he was the son of the late John E. McAssey, Sr. and Sandra L. (Tripp) McAssey. Donald attended Middleboro schools and was a lifelong resident of Middleboro, MA. He worked harvesting cranberries for Wilho E. Harju and his sons Richard, Larry, and Paul Harju. He also worked as a groomsman for several different harness horse racetracks, and horse trainers in Massachusetts, Maine, and New York. Donald enjoyed bowling, fishing, and hunting, and was an avid sports fan. He is survived by his, daughter Brandy Ganley, brother Jay McAssey and his wife Joanne, sister Terry Harju and her husband Richard, sister Sandy McAssey, sister Lisa McAssey, two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, three great nieces, three great nephews, his longtime partner Lori Kazlowski, and his beloved cat Romeo. Most of all Donald enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family and loved an audience for his many stories and jokes. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
