Doris Ann (Gilchrist) Johnson

Doris Ann Johnson, age 85, passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home in Middleborough. Born in Boston, MA, on Wednesday, June 15, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Wendell and Charlotte (Blair) Gilchrist. Doris is survived by her children; Alfred Johnson and his longtime companion Jayne Chellman of Pembroke, Carl Johnson and his wife Maureen of Foxboro, Heather Tracey and her husband James of Rochester, Gilbert Johnson and his wife Kimberly of Freetown, grandchildren; Erin, Brendan, Deirdre, Megan, Christian, and Andrew, siblings; Wendell Gilchrist of Roanoke, VA, Kenneth Gilchrist of Dedham, and Tracy Williamson of Roanoke, VA, as well as her many loving niece and nephews. She was predeceased by her long-time partner Charles Green, and sister Grace McCann.

Doris was raised in Dedham, MA, and graduated from Dedham High School. She lived with her family in Easton for many years before moving to Yarmouth and then to Carver prior to her final years at the Shaw Home in Middleborough. Doris worked in the floral industry for the majority of her life starting when she was just 16 in Dedham. While raising her four children, she also owned and operated the Village Florist of Easton. She was a national level designer for Teleflora where she was active as an officer and floral show commentator. Later she moved to Yarmouth where she managed Sweets & Stems Florist. In her later years she worked for Joanne Fabrics where she loved to assist customers with their projects. She loved her grandchildren and was always proud to boast their accomplishments. Doris was an outgoing and happy woman whose bright smile and twinkling blue eyes could always light up a room. She had a joyous love for singing and reading. She was also a very gifted seamstress, crafter, and knitter. She was known for her hand stitched dolls which she cherished dearly and would love to show them off to anyone wanting to see them.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring and loving staff at the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home as well as the compassionate staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for all their loving support. A Celebration of Life service will be held for Doris at a later date to be announced in the new year. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Activities Fund at www.theshawhome.org. The Shaw Home is a non-profit provider.
