After a long and full life, Dorothy M. (Perkins) Quimby, 92 years of Brockton, wife of the late Harry M. Quimby, Jr., died on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a brief illness.
Born in Brockton on February 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late George S. Perkins and Gladys M. (Drake) Perkins and a 1948 graduate of Brockton High School. Dorothy graduated from Massachusetts Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She was a proud, lifelong resident of Brockton where she and her husband raised six children.
Dorothy worked as an RN for over 30 years primarily at Goddard Hospital and Goddard Memorial Hospital and also as a survey interviewer for the Census Bureau. After her retirement, she resided seasonally in Moultonborough, NH serving with her husband as a volunteer at the Geneva Point Center for 20 years. Dot possessed the “gift of gab” and loved to meet people and tell stories. She enjoyed camping and traveling and was a talented knitter, sewist and cake decorator. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was a member of Christ Congregational Church, UCC of Brockton for 80 years, where she sang in the choir and served on many boards and committees.
She was also an active member of the Massachusetts Memorial Hospital School of Nursing’s Alumni Association and pursued her lifelong passion for helping people and the medical field by participating in multiple long term medical research studies.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Susan (Quimby) Tehranian and her husband Reza of Cohasset, Kathleen (Quimby) Walsh and her husband Stephen of Tiverton, RI, Cynthia (Quimby) Murphy and her husband William of Brockton, David Quimby of Brockton, Steven Quimby and his wife Fernanda of Brockton and son-in-law Peter Merianos of Brockton; her thirteen grandchildren: Richard Murphy, Benjamin Walsh, Brieanne (Murphy) Pereira, Kayvon Tehranian, Sarah (Merianos) Emeterio, Andrew Walsh, Roxanne (Tehranian) Stewart, Samantha Murphy, Marc Merianos, Kelsey Quimby, Roseangela Merianos, Abigail Quimby and Dale Quimby and six great grandchildren: Damien Coleman, Jacob Pereira, Pars Stewart, Eleanor Walsh, Kasra Tehranian and Lily Pereira. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lynn Fowler and a nephew and several nieces as well as the many others that called her Mom or Grammie. In addition to her husband of 62 years, she was preceded in death by her eldest daughter Patricia (Quimby) Merianos.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, from 4-7 pm at Christ Congregational Church UCC, 1350 Pleasant Street, Brockton. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 10 am at Christ Congregational Church UCC.
