Dorothy Scholz Obituary

Dorothy M. Scholz, age 93, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at her home in Lakeville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Frank A. Scholz, her oldest daughter Stephanie Sherry, and her son in-law Richard Gillespie.

Dorothy was born and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She and Frank raised their family in Point Pleasant WV. Upon their retirement in 1985 she and Frank returned to his childhood home in Lakeville MA. She was a graduate of Wagner College where she earned a degree in nursing. In her retirement, Dorothy was very involved in local groups including 4-H, the Lakeville Historical Society, Church Women United, and a founding member of Advent Lutheran Church of Middleboro, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and choosing hymns for Sunday services. At home, she took great joy in sewing, needlework, reading, puzzles and playing bridge.

Dorothy is survived by her son David and wife Maureen of McLean, VA, daughter Johanna Gillespie of Shelby, NC, daughter Cathryn Scholz of Lakeville, MA, and her son-in-law Bill Sherry of West Haven, CT. Her grandchildren Nathan Scholz and wife Sarah, Lauren Triebert, Kristen Gillespie and wife Rebecca, Randy Sherry and wife Kristen, Christopher Sherry, Rachael LeFrancois and husband PJ, and her great grandchildren Olivia and Jake Triebert, Everett Gillespie, and Teagan Sherry.

Respecting Dorothy’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
