Edward Churchill Brackett

Edward C. Brackett, age 99, husband of the late Diolinda M. (Fernandes) Brackett, passed away Tuesday November 30, 2021, at the Bridgewater Nursing Home in Bridgewater, MA, following a period of declining health. Born on Thursday August 10, 1922, in Lakeville, MA, he was the son of the late Randolph C. and Elizabeth M (Guild) Brackett, he was also the stepson of the late Russell Freeman. Edward attended Middleboro public schools. He was a Master Plumber and owned and operated his own plumbing and heating business for many years. A member of the New England Plumbing Inspectors Association, he was the past President of the South Shore Plumbing Inspectors Association and was the former Gas inspector for the town of Lakeville. Edward also belonged to the Middleboro Lodge of Elks in Lakeville, MA. Edward was a proud United States WWII veteran, serving as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Forces 563rd bomb squadron. He was stationed in England serving in the Air offensive in Europe, Ardennes, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe, earning the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon along with 5 bronze and 1 silver star and the Good Conduct medal. Edward really enjoyed being outside and being adventurous. He always liked to take long drives to nowhere and finding out of the way discoveries. He loved flying planes and taking his grandchildren Ryan and Jason O’Connell for plane rides and traveling all over the U.S. with his camping friends. Edward is survived by his daughter Linda Susan O’Connell and her husband Joseph of Middleboro, MA, son Paul A. Brackett of Lakeville, MA, son James E. Brackett and his wife Barbara of Middleboro, MA, daughter Betty A. Curtis and her husband Craig of Bradenton, FL, grandchildren Melanie Fields and her husband David of Clermont, FL, Ryan O’Connell of Middleboro, MA, Jason O’Connell of Middleboro, MA, Evan Brackett of Bridgewater, MA, Nicole Brackett of Bridgewater, MA, and Kerry Fitzgerald and her husband Brian of Canton, MA, and great grandchildren Carson and Beckham Fields of Clermont, FL, Danielle Brackett of Atlanta, GA, and Samantha Fitzgerald of Canton, MA, along with several nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by his sister the late Shirley Cavacco, and brothers the late William, Donald and George Brackett. He will be sadly missed by his family and the many wonderful friends he had in his life. A private graveside service for the family will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
