Edward James Hastie, age 74, loving husband of the late Claudette M. (Chevalier) Hastie, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at his home in Lakeville. Born in Boston, MA, on Thursday, January 6, 1949, Ed was the son of the late Robert and Barbara A. (Mullen) Hastie. He is survived by his daughter Karin Hastie, and son Ryan Hastie, both of Taunton, including his six grandchildren: Damien Newcomb, Jenna Hastie, Dominik Hastie, Haleigh Steele, Katie Hastie, and Ashley Steele. Ed was a class of 1967 graduate of North Attleboro High School. While in high school Ed played the snare drum as a member of the Legionnaires Drum and Bugle Corps of North Attleboro, the Gilbert-Perry VFW Drum and Bugle Corp of Attleboro, the Telstars Drum and Bugle Corp, where he met the love of his life Claudette, and the Al Royal Cadets. Ed proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning a National Defense Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with two stars. He and his wife Claudette were long time residents of Lakeville building their home in the mid 1980’s. Ed retired from Verizon where he worked as a lineman and splicer. He enjoyed working with his hands, being outdoors and fixing things around the house. Ed was fiercely independent and deeply loved by all who knew him, especially his family. “He was a really nice man”. A funeral home service will be held on Friday December 29, 2023, at 12:00PM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 10:00AM -12:00PM. Ed will be laid to rest with his late wife Claudette at Sampson Cemetery in Lakeville with military honors.
