It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin L. Reed Jr., also fondly known as Eddie, Junior and Chief age 88, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on July 27, 2026, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth after a brief illness. Born on June 22, 1938, in Brockton, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Edwin L. Reed Sr. and Emma H. (Taylor) Reed. Edwin was a devoted family man and trusted friend. He and his wife Patricia spent most of their years in Brockton, before moving to Middleboro a decade ago.
Eddie was married to the love of his life, Patricia A. (Freeman) Reed, for an incredible 65 years. Their love story is an inspiration to all who knew them. A proud veteran, he served honorably as a Paratrooper in the U.S. Army from January 1957 to January 1959 and continued his service with the U.S. National Guard, embodying the values of duty and dedication.
As the owner and proprietor of Reed's Auto Sales and Service, Eddie was a skilled auto mechanic who took great pride in his work. He was a man of many talents, cherished for his generosity, great sense of humor, and his ability to fix almost anything. His warm smile and unwavering commitment to family made him a beloved figure to those fortunate enough to know him.
A passionate enthusiast of fishing, restoring classic cars with his grandsons, and participating in auto racing and car shows, Eddie cherished every moment spent with family. He relished traveling with Patricia and his brother-in-law, as well as camping on Nauset Beach, where memories were made and laughter echoed.
In addition to his devoted wife, Patricia, Eddie is survived by his four daughters: Joyce Anderson and her husband Scott, Carol Ohrenberger and her husband Mike, Susan McTernan and her husband Arthur, and Gail Cole and her husband Russ. He will be lovingly remembered by his nine grandchildren: Alyce Iannarelli, Michael Ohrenberger, Anthony Poliatti, Amanda McTernan, Kyle Ohrenberger, Stephen McTernan, Matthew McTernan, Aaron Cole, and Abby Cole, along with their spouses, and his ten great-grandchildren: Alexis, Ryan, Emilia, Madeline, Quinn, Ethan, Cecilia, Samson, Aubrey, and Hallie. Also survived by his sister Barbara Jones, and brothers Roy and Mark Andrade, all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts.
A memorial service to honor Eddie's life will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, located at 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347.
