It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Eleanor B. Chace, on Tuesday May 10, 2022, she was 86. Eleanor passed away peacefully surrounded by family and caregivers at Nemasket Health Care Center in Middleboro, MA. Born in Acushnet, MA, on Friday September 13, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Peggy Brown. They moved to East Freetown when she was 13. Eleanor attended Dighton High School, and continued her education at Kenyon-Campbell Business School, earning her secretarial degree. Her first job after graduation was at Goodhue Lumber Company, working in the office. After working there for many years she left to work at Chace Chevrolet as an office manager until her retirement. Eleanor was the beloved wife of the late Leonard H. Chace Jr. They met in East Freetown and were married on August 30, 1958 at the East Freetown Congregational-Christian Church. Their love affair of 63 years is a role model for all of us. They loved working, traveling, and being together. Eleanor also enjoyed watching the Red Sox and was one of their biggest fans. She also loved to play the organ, ski, and fish. Eleanor and Len shared their time during the summers in Lakeville, MA, and winters in Englewood, FL. Both homes were filled with friends, family, and love. Eleanor is survived by her older sister Bette Childs of Oak Park, IL. She is the cherished Aunty of Cathy McGovern and her husband Mike, Bruce Childs and his wife Ara, Sue Childs, and Margaret Childs all of the Chicago, IL, area, Susan Chace and her wife Anne Marie Corraro of West Bridgewater, MA, Jonathan Chace and his wife Ruth of Marion, MA, Ferguson McNiel, Kathryn McNiel, and Steven McNiel of Houston, TX, area, god child Wendy Guthrie of Lee, NH, sisters in law Cynthia MacNiel of Houston, TX, Barbara Chace of Fairhaven, MA, and many great nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved dog Muffy. Visiting hours for Eleanor will be held on Friday May 20, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00PM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 21, 2022, at 10:00AM at the East Freetown Congregational Christian Church 4 Washburn Avenue East Freetown, MA 02717, followed by interment at Rounseville Cemetery in East Freetown, MA. The family would like to express our sincere thanks for your thoughts, prayers, and condolences. A special gratitude to Eleanors wonderful caregiver, Milak, and the care provided by Nemasket Healthcare Center and Beacon Hospice. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Eleanor can be made to the East Freetown Congregational-Christian Church where she was a long time member.
