Elisabeth “Lis” A. Merra, age 91, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at her home in Brockton, MA, after a period of failing health. She was the loving wife of the late Frank Merra, they were married on August 26, 1955, and were married for 31 years prior to his passing in 1986. Born in Reading, MA, on Monday, September 26, 1932, Elisabeth was the daughter of the late Ernest G. and Florence (Fyfe) Babcock. She graduated from Reading High School, class of 1950, and continued her education at Westbrook Junior College in Portland, ME, class of 1952, earning her degree as a registered medical technologist. Elisabeth lived most of her life in Brockton. She worked as a medical technologist for Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Brockton Hospital. She retired as a teacher’s aide from the Brockton School System after 17 years. Elisabeth had a passion for plants, nature, and animals and was a talented artist. She is survived by her two sons, Stephen P. Merra of Kissimmee, FL, and Jeffrey F. Merra and his wife Jean of Quincy, MA. Elisabeth was predeceased by her brothers Ernest G. Babcock, Jr., and Paul F. Babcock. A committal service for Elisabeth was held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 12:30PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, where she was laid to rest next to her late husband Frank.
