Elsie Mason Obituary

Elsie “Pete” Mason, age 95, wife of the late Robert L. Mason, passed away Monday February 14, 2022, at her home in Lakeville following a extended period of declining health. Born in Middleboro on Monday March 8, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Basil and Lia (Galfre) Bartlett. Elsie was known to everyone as “Pete” her entire life. When she was born, her grandfather wanted a boy, so he called her “Pietro”. A graduate of Middleboro High School, Pete took on many varied jobs to support her family from processing transportation itineraries for troops returning from WWII, to a restaurant cook, (including at her brother's place, Heritage Hill C.C.) a teachers aide, and a receptionist at Chace Chevrolet until her retirement in 1991, but her primary role was Mom and Homemaker. Pete volunteered for the American Red Cross during WWII, rolling bandages for the troops. She also was a member Promerito Honor Society. An avid gardener, Pete was a lifelong RedSox fan (her kids were never allowed to say “Yankees” near her). Blessed with a quick wit, Pete mastered technology in her 80’s, texting her grandchildren daily and loved beating her kids at Words with Friends. She could often be found gathering with her 7 siblings, her life long best friends. Pete is survived by her son Thomas Mason and his wife Kathleen Bagnell of Middleboro, son David Mason and his late wife Terry (Coleman) of Middleboro, daughter Teri Mason and her husband Richard Herlihy of Winchester, daughter Patti Silva & her husband Robert Silva of Middleboro, daughter in law Brenda (Sylvia) Mason of Middleboro, fourteen grandchildren Carrie Almeida, Robert Mason, Mark & Bryan Bagnell, Brittany, Chelsea, Ashley, and Emily Mason, Lauren & Leia Herlihy, and Ryan, Kaitlyn & Madison Silva, eleven great grandchildren Adam & Erica Almeida, Alyson Miner, Aiden & Isla Mason, Brandon, Dustin, & Jordan Bagnell, Connor and Chase Bagnell, and Hayden Pettine-Bagnell. She is also survived by her sister Annette Bartlett of NH, brother Basil W. Bartlett Jr. and his wife Evelyn of Lakeville, her brother Gene Bartlett of Lakeville, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. Pete was predeceased by her son Michael Mason, and grandson Jamie Bagnell. Visiting hours for Pete will be held on Friday February 18, 2022, from 4:00-7:00PM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday February 19, 2022, at 11:00AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church 157 Middleboro Road, East Freetown, MA 02717. Pete will be laid to rest in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Middleboro with her late husband Robert, following the funeral mass.
