Gary P. Pavao

Gary P. Pavao, 65, of Lakeville, MA, passed away on Friday March 17th, 2023, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA, after a long battle with Machado Joseph disease. He was the husband of Susan L. Boehler.

Born in New Bedford, MA, he was the son of Alice P. Pavao and the late Gilbert R. Pavao. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from Southeastern Massachusetts University (UMASS Dartmouth) and a Master of Education from Salem State University. He was a history teacher at Bristol Plymouth Regional Technical High School until retiring in 2017.

Early in his retirement, Gary became a mystery writer who had 2 of his stories published on-line. Gary was also an avid sports fan of all New England teams but especially loved the Boston Red Sox. In his younger days, he was the Captain of the Sidney Street Braves, a local street hockey team. This team created lifelong friendships as he organized annual reunions for over 40 years. They were even presented with a Resolution from the New Bedford City Council in honor of their friendships and commitment as a team. Gary’s hobbies included traveling and enjoyed planning vacations, watching wrestling, crossword puzzles, and going out for vanilla chai tea.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his brother Elliot M. Pavao and his wife Mary, of Bristol RI, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Linda Noyes, his nephew Robert D. Noyes, his niece Lindsay B. Makuch and her husband Nathan, his great niece Mila Makuch all of East Freetown, and many cousins.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 25,2023 from 10:00AM-12:00 noon at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home on 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville MA, followed by a memorial service at 12:00PM.
