George Morais Obituary

George G. Morais, age 83, husband of the late Eva R. (Monteiro) Morais, passed away Thursday March 24, 2022, at Hathaway Manor Extended Care in New Bedford, MA, following a long and courageous battle with esophageal cancer and C.O.P.D. Born in New Bedford, MA, on Sunday January 15, 1939, George was the son of the late Joao and Maria (Carreira) Morais. George grew up in New Bedford, MA, graduating from New Bedford High School, class of 1956, and lived in New Bedford, Assonet, and Fairhaven, MA. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard as a Radio Seaman from 1956 – 1960 and was awarded the good conduct medal for “Honorable Character of Service” George worked for several companies as a quality control inspector for Revere Copper and Brass, EPEC (Elcetralab and Printed Electronics Corporation), The Assonet, Inn, and Algonquin SNG. He volunteered as a coach for the Assonet Little and Minor Leagues during the 1970’s, and even played in a men’s blooper ball league. Dogs and the color blue were a few of George’s favorites. He also was a big fan of the New England sports teams, especially the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins. Blueberry pie and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups also make the list of his favorites. George played the accordion, and enjoyed collecting baseball cards, coins, building model railroad trains, and frequently attended antique car shows driving his 1941 Ford Coupe. George is survived by his daughter Diane Nanfelt, son Michael Morais, grandchildren Mark Kaminski, Kara Kaminski, Zack Nanfelt, Trot Nanfelt, Tatum Nanfelt, Hayley and Camryn Morais, great grandchildren Kade and Kane Kaminski, and sister Mary Morais. George was predeceased by his daughter Sharon Kaminski, and brother Richard Morais. Visiting hours for George will be held on Sunday April 24, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00PM followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00PM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven, MA
