Gladys E. (Couch) Askew

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Etrulia (Trudy) Askew, age 81, of Brockton, MA. Surrounded by the love of her family, she peacefully departed this life on June 29, 2026, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. Born on April 14, 1945, in Aiken, South Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of the late Alexander Bolden Couch and Gladys Katheryn (Moyer) Couch.

 Trudy spent most of her life in Brockton, where she raised her family. She earned her associate's degree from Massasoit Community College and devoted many years of her professional life to the Internal Revenue Service. Earlier in her career, she worked as a school bus driver, a job she chose because it allowed her to be home whenever her children were out of school, giving her the opportunity to care for and support her family.

 A longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Brockton, Trudy valued her faith and lived a quiet, private life centered on her family. She is survived by her loving children: Tina Boslee and her husband Frank, Kathy Askew and her partner Bill Kelly, Linda Grande and her partner Barry Piff, and William T. Askew III, as well as her former husband, William T. Askew Jr. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Ricky, Kristen, David, Kayla, Shaun, Billy Jr., Angela, Ashley, Jessica, and Davie, whom she cherished as her grandson and her seven great grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Janemarie and Barbara, and her brother, Walter along with her deceased brothers, Heyward, Albert, Donald, and Haskel, who will forever hold a special place in her memory.

 After a long and courageous battle with dementia, Trudy is finally at peace. While her illness gradually took so much from her, it could never diminish the love she gave or the place she holds in the hearts of her family. Though her loved ones take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering, the sorrow of losing her is immeasurable. Her absence leaves an emptiness that can never truly be filled, but the love she gave, the sacrifices she made, and the memories she created will remain with her family forever. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in their hearts.
