James Poutre Obituary

James Philip Poutre, known to everyone as “Jimmy,” left his beloved home in Lakeville for his final adventure on February 1, 2022.  His loving wife and best friend, Tracey, was by his side. Jimmy was born in New Bedford on October 15, 1948, the son of Philip J. and Stella (Jasinski) Poutre.  He was the loving father of Brian and Scott Poutre. A one-of-a-kind go-getter, Jimmy was very proud of his establishment and ownership of Asphalt Maintenance of New England Inc. and Jimmie’s Used Cars, Inc., among many other creative business ventures.  With an unstoppable adventurous spirit, the bigger the challenge the more Jimmy liked it.  He did not know the phrase “it can’t be done.” Jimmy was an avid sailor.  He was a licensed Master Captain, 50-ton vessels.  He could often be found sailing his “Rebel Yell” or Why Not” in Buzzards Bay or his O’Day Day Sailer in the Florida Keys or Matlacha, Florida.  He especially loved sailing his Catamaran “Magic Carpet Ride” in Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound.  Jimmy spent endless hours on Martha’s Vineyard exploring the island in his van or on his scooter. He cherished every moment of the joy of sailing and fun and laughter with family and friends. He also loved to ski, travel, and listen to music.  In addition, he was a licensed hypnotist. Everyone who knew Jimmy knows he had a big heart, that he loved deeply, and that he was there when it mattered.  His greatest joy was family. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of family and friends who were always entertained by his adventures – whether they were on one with him or just listening to him share stories of an adventure past. Jimmy is survived by his wife Tracey (Smith) Poutre and his son, Brian Poutre.  He was predeceased by his eldest son, Scott Poutre.  Jimmy also is survived by his sister, Patricia (Poutre) Castro, his nephews Mark and Blue Young, cousins Bobby and Diane Lawrence, Barbara and Terry Dane, Teresa and Gary Kobza and sister-in-law, Karen Dowell, among many other cousins, Nieces, Great-Nieces and Nephews whom he so loved deeply and felt privileged to watch grow up. A true lover of life, in lieu of flowers, he would ask you to honor his legacy by living life to the fullest every day!

A celebration of life will be held in the Spring.
