Janet Marie (DesJardins) Medeiros

Janet Marie (DesJardins) Medeiros, age 90, loving wife of Alvin Medeiros, passed away Saturday April 16, 2022, at The Oaks in New Bedford, MA. Born in Acushnet, MA, on Tuesday October 13, 1931, Janet was the daughter of the late William and Jeanette (Theberge) DesJardins. Janet was a class of 1949 graduate of Holy Family High School and lived in New Bedford, MA, for many years before moving to Deerfield Beach, FL, most recent of East Freetown, MA. Janet was a homemaker for her husband and their six children creating a loving and stable home. She then worked outside the home as a secretary in the emergency departments for St. Luke’s and Parkwood Hospital. Janet also worked as a hostess for several area restaurants during her time spent in Florida. A founding member of the church youth group, couples club and the women’s guild at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Janet was an avid reader who enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a member of St. John Neumann Church in East Freetown, MA. In addition to her husband Alvin, Janet is survived by her daughter Nancy Pequita and her husband David, son Ernest Medeiros and his wife Joanne Ricci, daughter Susan Turgeon and her husband Brian, son David Medeiros and significant other Kathy Roessle, son William Medeiros and his wife Dawn, and son Joel Medeiros who unfortunately passed just days after his mother, and his wife Cheryl. Grandmother of twelve, great grandmother of nineteen, and one great great granddaughter, Janet also is survived by her cousin Lynette Ouillette and several nieces and nephews. Janet was predeceased by her brothers William and George DesJardins, and her sister and best friend Dorothy Sylvia. A funeral mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday April 29, 2022, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church 157 Middleboro Road, East Freetown, MA 02717. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Janet’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by visiting their website at www.stjude.org.
