Joan Fisher Obituary

Joan Claire (Giddings) Fisher, age 90, loving wife of the late Harry T. Fisher Jr for 71 years, passed away on Friday July 1, 2022, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, following a brief illness. Born in North Quincy, MA, on Tuesday May 31, 1932, Joan was the daughter of the late Clarence and Hilda (Sherman) Giddings. She grew up in North Quincy, MA, graduating from North Quincy High School, and has been a resident of Middleboro, MA, for the last 60 plus years.

In her early married years, Joan was a homemaker, creating a loving and warm home for her husband and children all while keeping the books for their Agway Dairy Farm and Cranberry Bog family businesses. She later kept books for the Windjammer Restaurant in Wareham, MA, the Barnside Restaurant in Hanover, MA, and Shirle’ Fashions in Middleboro, MA. Following this she had a vested interest and kept books for the Fireside Grille, Log Cabin, Fisher's Chicken House and Riverside, all family restaurants in Middleboro, MA, and to the present she continued to work as a bookkeeper for Dave’s Diner, Harry’s Bar & Grill, Fishers Pub, also in Middleboro, MA.

Joan was an active member of the Middleboro Ski Club. For more than twenty years she enjoyed down-hill skiing while entertaining family and friends in the “Home Among the Hills” vacation chalet she and her husband built in Poultney, VT. She was a past member of the Central Congregational Church in Middleboro, MA, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, was an avid reader, and enjoyed baking pies and cakes. Above all her greatest joy was the time spent with her family.

Joan is survived by her loving sons, and their families; Gid Fisher and his wife MaryAnne, and David Fisher and his wife Dina, all of Middleboro, five grandchildren, Joshua Fisher of Florida, Michael Fisher of Chicago, Katie Fisher of Middleboro, Colby Travers of Pembroke, and Kendall Fisher of Middleboro, great granddaughter Addison Fisher of Chicago, sister Jean Beatty of South Burlington, VT, daughter-in-law Cheryl Fisher of West Palm Beach, FL, and many adoring nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her son Jeffrey Fisher formerly of West Palm Beach, Fl, brother John Giddings Formerly of Abington, devoted sister-in-law Olive L. Fisher formerly of Weymouth. Joan will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

All are invited to memorial visitation for Joan on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, from 12:00 – 2:00PM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347, followed by a memorial service at 2:00PM.
