Joan Ann Gonsalves

Joan A. (Gonsalves) Gonsalves, 90, of Lakeville, MA, formerly of Spring Hill, FL, passed away peacefully at home overlooking her favorite place, Long Pond.

She was born in New Bedford, MA to John R. and Evangeline (Avila) Gonsalves. She was educated in the New Bedford school system. After graduating from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She went on to have a long and successful career as Supervisor in the Operating Room where she was well liked and respected by her staff and colleagues.

After retiring from nursing she relocated to Spring Hill, FL from Lakeville for 25 years. She got a job delivering 700 papers a night for the St Petersburg Times because she always wanted to keep busy before returning to Long Pond. She loved to watch all the activity on the pond every day.

She was a woman of great strength, kindness and determination as well as hard working. These are the qualities that she instilled into her cherished family. In her younger days she enjoyed traveling, taking her family on many adventures. Always an avid reader she would read multiple books a week, keeping her mind sharp.

Cherishing her memory are her daughter Sharon, who lovingly was her caregiver as well as her best friend, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her brother John, her daughter Donna and her son Mark as well as her beloved dogs. She was the former wife of James Gonsalves whom she remained very close with until his death.

True to form, her wish was for people to be kind to each other and enjoy life. No tears, only smiles. Per her request a celebration of her life will take place this summer at her home on Long Pond
