John Lawson, Sr. Obituary

John A. Lawson, Sr., age 82, of Middleborough, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27th, 2024, in Brockton, Massachusetts. Born on June 3rd, 1942, he was loved and raised by his mother, Pauline Gosnay and grandmother, Easter Brown in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. Out of high school, John served in the United States Navy. He served until 1965 as a Machinist's Mate on the USS Wasp. John worked with his cherished friend, Robert “Bob” Jackson at R. A. Jackson Plumbing in Middleborough, Massachusetts. He was a member of the Mitchell Memorial Club and enjoyed his “lunch from the club” on Fridays with his wife, Adele. Some of his favorite things to do included watching the Red Sox, listening to talk radio, woodworking, spoiling his cat, Thunder, and spending quality time with his family. John was an incredible woodsmith, sharing his gift for generations. John was the son of the late Pauline Gosnay, of New Bedford. He leaves his loving wife, Adele R. (Baronas) Lawson of Middleboro, his 3 sons, and many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren; His son John and his wife Diana of Middleborough; son Michael and his wife Lisa, of New Hampshire; son Stephen and his wife Diana of Ohio; his grandchildren Rachel Orr and her husband Justin of Maine; Joseph Lawson and his wife Jackie of New Hampshire, Hannah Swale and her husband Nicholas of Middleborough, Anthony and Andrew Lawson of Ohio, and 5 sweet great-grandchildren, Kayden, Cody, Gianna, Regina, and Crue. He leaves behind a legacy of friends, including his closest friend, Bob Jackson, who was more like a brother. John will always be remembered for his laughter and generosity and the way that he always had a smile on his face. We’ll imagine him reminding us that he didn’t “fall off the turnip truck” in his southern drawl. We couldn’t have asked for a more treasured husband, beloved father, adored grandfather and great-grandfather, and dear friend; his warmth will be missed every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Old Colony Hospice, and the Brockton and West Roxbury VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Old Colony Hospice and/or the VA Boston Healthcare System. Services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, with visitation from 4-7 pm at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, Massachusetts. A funeral home service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the funeral home. John will be laid to rest in Lakenham Cemetery in Carver, following the funeral service.
