Joseph Brian Frates

Joseph B. Frates, age 64, and devoted husband of the late Elizabeth (Hart-Smith) Frates, passed away at his home in Wareham, MA, on August 31, 2023, following a brief illness. The son of the late Clarence J. and Alice S. (Caveiro) Frates, Joseph was born in Middleboro, MA, on Friday, June 5, 1959. He graduated from Apponoquet Regional High School, class of 1980.

Joseph worked for several companies in the area over the years including Alden Shoe in Middleboro, Rand McNally in Taunton, Tech Etch in Plymouth, Luzo’s Food Service in New Bedford, and most recent he worked as a donut delivery driver for Dunkin Donuts in Barnstable, Plymouth, and Bristol counties.

When he wasn’t working Joseph enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with family. He and his late wife Elizabeth enjoyed traveling to visit the many lighthouses along the east coast. Their favorite being the Portland Head Lighthouse in Maine.

Joseph is survived by his son Brian Frates of Brockton, daughter Kyla Frates of Vermont, two stepsons Michael Smith and his companion Amanda of West Bridgewater, and Nicholas Smith and his wife Patricia of Brockton, two stepdaughters Peggy and Kelly Galvin of Brockton, beloved grandson Landon Smith of Brockton, three brothers Robert Frates of Middleboro, Wayne Frates of Lakeville, and Charles Frates of Wareham, sister Barbara Ouellette and her husband Robert of Lakeville, sister in law Darlene Diaz and her husband Douglas of Lakeville, and many loving nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his son Corey Frates formerly of Taunton.

Visiting hours for Joseph will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023, from 9:00-11:00AM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347. A graveside service immediately following visitation will be held at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Abington, where Joseph will be laid to rest with his late wife Elizabeth.
