Joseph H. Rezendes, affectionately known as "Babe" by his siblings and those who knew and loved him, passed away peacefully at his home on August 24, 2026, at the age of 94, following a sudden decline in health. After a long and full life, Babe is now at peace and reunited with his beloved wife, Carolyn "Ginger" (Wall), and his son, Steven Rezendes.
Born in Raynham, Massachusetts, Babe was the son of the late Joseph F. and Mary (Medeiros) Rezendes and the stepson of the late Olympio Gay. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary (Rezendes) Butler, Evelyn (Rezendes) George, George Rezendes, and John "Ed" Rezendes.
Babe was a proud graduate of Taunton High School, Class of 1950. In 1952, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Air Force. He proudly served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. His service to his country was an important part of who he was, and he carried that sense of duty and commitment throughout his life.
After returning home, Babe began a long career with Di-Mo Manufacturing in Middleborough, Massachusetts, where he worked until his retirement in 1997. For 10 years, he served as an on-call firefighter with the Lakeville Fire Department, always willing to lend a hand when his community needed him.
Babe was also a devoted member of the Lakeville Lions Club for 40 years. His years of service and dedication were recognized in 2002 when he was honored with a Life Membership. Giving back to his community was simply part of who Babe was.
But those who knew Babe best will remember him for much more than his work and service. He had an adventurous spirit and a genuine zest for life. He loved skiing and scuba diving, passions that eventually led him to own Tri-A Ski, Dive and Camping Shop in Lakeville. He enjoyed being outdoors, trying new things, and sharing the things he loved with others.
Babe was also a true New England sports fan. He loved his teams and followed them faithfully. As a longtime New England Patriots season-ticket holder, he supported the team through every season. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan as well, and there was rarely a chance to talk baseball that he would pass up.
Babe leaves behind his sons, Joseph E. Rezendes of Lakeville and Randy J. Rezendes of San Diego, California; five granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews and caregivers who lovingly and devotedly looked after him, bringing him companionship, comfort, and joy during his final years.
Babe leaves behind a lifetime of memories-of family gatherings, adventures, sports, service to his community, and the many people whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside service and burial with United States Military Honors will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Knoll Cemetery, 175 Staples Street, East Taunton, Massachusetts.
In honor of Babe's lifelong commitment to the Lions Club and his many years of service to the community, donations in Babe's memory are suggested and may be made to: Lakeville Lions Club 170 Main Street Lakeville MA 02347
Arrangements are entrusted to Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, Massachusetts.
