Leavitt "Les" Simmons Obituary

Leavitt Chandler Simmons, age 90, husband of the late May Charlotte (Guilford) Simmons, passed away on Friday March 26, 2021 at his home in Lakeville after weeks of failing health. Born on Monday September 15, 1930 in New Bedford, MA he was the son of the late Stanley C. and Methyl D. (Caswell) Simmons. Les proudly served in the United States Air Force for 23 years retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant.  A longtime resident of Lakeville, Leavitt earned his bachelor’s degree in business and worked for Ocean Spray as a purchasing agent for 20 years. He then worked for 10 years as a commodities broker for McKinney Favelle Incorporated, he also was the founder of Mockingbird Hill Christmas Tree Farm in Lakeville. A member of the Mitchell Memorial Club of Middleboro, the Lakeville Lions Club, and Middleboro Elks Club, Les enjoyed tending to his love of the Christmas Tree Farm and gardening, and was a former member of the Lakeville United Church of Christ. Leavitt is survived by; his son Thomas L. Simmons, granddaughter Sarah May C. Macutkiewicz, grandson Leavitt C. Simmons III, and his great grandchildren, Jennifer R. Macutkiewicz, Lucian C. Macutkiewicz, and Leah C. Simmons. Leavitt was predeceased by his son, Leavitt C. Simmons II, and daughter in law, Margot A. (Ventura) Simmons. A small private family graveside service will be held at Nemasket Hill Cemetery in Middleboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Leavitt’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or by visiting their website at www.stjude.org
