Obituary

Dr. Ludvik “Lou” Gudmundsson, age 67 of Lakeville, passed away Thursday March 4, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born on Wednesday February 24, 1954 in Reykjavik Iceland, he was the son of Gerda (Ludviksdottir) Gudmundsson and the late Gunnar Gudmundsson.

At the age of 10 Mr. Gudmundsson moved to the United States with his family, and settled in Lakeville. “Lou” attended Assawompset Elementary School, and graduated from Apponequet Regional High School, class of 1972 where he and his brother, (Dr. Gudmundur “Goody” Gudmundsson) played football. Earning his title of Doctor, in 1979, Mr. Gudmundsson graduated with honors from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport Iowa. Dr. Gudmundsson made homes in New Bedford and Fall River for a brief period of time before returning to his hometown of Lakeville to raise his family. As a boy “Lulli” and his brother worked during the summers with their father (Gunnar Gudmundsson), captain of his own fishing boat. Dr. Gudmundsson established his practice in 1981, opening Gudmundsson Chiropractic located in Fall River. Dr. Gudmundsson was a healer in its truest form. He embodied the philosophy of chiropractic care through a tradition of caring and improving quality of life. Dr. Gudmundsson truly prized everyone he treated. He was impassioned by his patients and motivated by his evolving curiosity to acquire knowledge. Dr. Gudmundsson would frequent chiropractic seminars returning enriched and refreshed, thrilled to define his study through his practice. Mr. Gudmundsson cherished his friends deeply. With his big smile, Lou would so faithfully bring their shenanigans to life by recounting memories. He was an extraordinary storyteller and his voice will be sorely missed. Mr. Gudmundsson was also a highly regarded, lifelong Garfield (the cat) aficionado and Disney fanatic. He fondly shared his love of “oldies’ and 70’s rock bands (notably “his buddy” Ozzy) while driving with his children, taking in the “scenic route” wherever they were headed. He loved cruising around while resting an arm in the open window and enjoying the breeze. Lou loved to play chess, teaching his son and grandson to play. He made it his mission to attend each family event as it was most important to him to spend every moment he could with his children and family. Without measure his greatest passion in life was being a dad, surpassed only by being an Afi. He was a living example of kindness. In addition to his mother Gerda, Ludvik is survived by his five children; Kathryn Gudmundsson, Kristyn Gudmundsson, Jennifer Gudmundsson, Stefan Gudmundsson, and Laurel Carter and her husband Cody, a grandson Darrion Soares, his former wife Linda (Medeiros) Gudmundsson, and his many grand dogs and grand cats. He was predeceased by his older brother Dr. Gudmundur “Goody” Gudmundsson.  A private funeral service will be held on Friday March 12th at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville MA 02347. He will be laid to rest with his late father and brother in Sampson Cemetery in Lakeville. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home for the funeral service on Friday.
