Germaine (Mayer) Bourque, age 78, beloved wife of Maurice Bourque, of Lakeville, MA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 20, 2023, while she and her husband were visiting their daughter and grandchildren in New Jersey. Born on Tuesday, March 20, 1945, in Acushnet, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A and Marguerite S. (Fournier) Mayer.
Germaine was a graduate of New Bedford High School class of 1963 and was employed with her husband in their insurance office where she would handle the day to day operations. She was also involved in the Tri-Town Association (Rochester, Marion, and Mattapoisett) where she represented the town of Rochester as an advocate for students with special needs/learning difficulties.
First and foremost, she was a mother; she loved children and animals. She always had a smile for everyone she met. Germaine enjoyed gardening, cooking, homemaking, reading and spending time with her family. Germaine and Maurice enjoyed traveling the world, visiting numerous states in the US, enjoying the customs and traditions of various countries.
In addition to her husband Maurice, Germaine is survived by her daughter Kendra of Hanover, MA; her daughter Michelle Shoback and husband Joseph and two grandchildren, Aubrey and Alexander of Warren, NJ. She is also survived by her sister, Theresa Saulnier of New Bedford, MA, sister-in-law Madeline Frances of Arizona, and brother-in-law Paul R. Bourque OFM. She is predeceased by her siblings Roger Mayer, Paul Mayer, Rita Rhodes and Lucille Froh.
Memorial visitation for Germaine will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 9:00 – 10:45AM, at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347, immediately followed by a funeral mass at 11:00AM at Sts. Martha & Mary Catholic Church 354 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347.
