It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Ann Ferree, age 100, of East Freetown, MA, who departed from this world on March 6, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. Born on April 1, 1925, in Wareham, MA, she was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph B. and Mary (Ferreira) Lopes.
Margaret dedicated her life to education and the arts. After graduating from Wareham High School in 1943, she pursued her passion for teaching by earning a Master's Degree from Bridgewater State University in 1947. Margaret had a profound impact on the lives of her students during her tenure as an elementary school and music teacher with the Department of Defense Dependents Schools from 1953 until her retirement in 1987. Her career took her abroad to Europe and Germany, where she cherished the opportunity to inspire young minds. Upon returning to her roots in Freetown, she continued to share her love of music, delighting in playing the piano, and engaging in hobbies such as antique collecting and gardening. She was also a devoted communicant of St. John Neumann Church in East Freetown.
Margaret is survived by her precious daughters, Patricia Ann Ferree and Janet Lynn Reynolds, along with her son-in-law Bill Reynolds. Her legacy continues through her granddaughters, Samantha Ferree, Sabrina Ferree, and Paula Morall, as well as her loving great-granddaughters, Neela and Ada. She enjoyed the affection of her close family, which included her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Steve Crocker; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis and Alma Lopes; Judy Lopes and Pat Lopes, as well as her grandnieces and grandnephews: Susan, Jennifer, Jackie, Francis, Tony, Jose, Jessica Lopes, Cheryl, Paula, Melissa, Thad, Alyson and their families, and sons-in-law Adam Lockman, Miguel Barallardos, and Colton Murphy. Margaret was predeceased by her brothers James and Peter Lopes and sister Regina Lopes.
Margaret's unwavering spirit and dedication to her family and students will be cherished in the hearts of many. She leaves behind a rich legacy of love, kindness, and inspiration that will continue to resonate through the generations.
