Margaret Baker Obituary

Margaret I. (VanNostrand) Baker, age 99, wife of the late Russell J. Baker, passed away Monday, January 30, 2023, at her son and daughter-in-law’s, Brian & Joanne’s home in Lakeville, MA, following a decline in her health over the last few months. Born in Taunton, MA, on Tuesday, March 13, 1923, Margaret was the daughter of the late William H. and Elizabeth (Skelly) VanNostrand. Margaret graduated from Taunton High School and was a resident of Taunton. She worked for New England Telephone (now Verizon) retiring as an Operator Services manager. In her early years, she worked at Myles Standish Army Camp in Taunton.

Margaret was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. While her children were younger, she was very active in the Parent Teachers Association. She and her family attended the former St. Pauls’ Church in Taunton. Reading was a favorite of Margaret’s along with playing Bingo, Red Sox baseball games, taking long walks, and being an active grandmother and great grandmother.

Margaret is survived by her sons Brian D. Baker and his wife Joanne of Lakeville, and Gary W. Baker and his wife Linda of Taunton, grandchildren: Brian Baker and his wife Kara of South Dartmouth, MA, Melissa Baker of Naples, FL, Tim Baker and his wife Michele of Stoneham, MA, and Tara Christina and her husband Joe of East Bridgewater, MA, five great grandchildren Aiden, Sophia, Ella, and Julia of South Dartmouth, MA, and Matthew of East Bridgewater, MA. Her brother Bob VanNostrand and his wife Nancy of Bradenton, Fl, is her only living sibling. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law Dick Lebrun and many nieces and nephews.   Margaret was predeceased by her sisters Rita Baron Caulfield, Beverly LeBrun, Barbara Van Nostrand and brother William (Bill) Van Nostrand.

A private graveside service for Margaret will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 11:15AM, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
