Maria Alice Oliveira of Lakeville, Mass., loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, passed peacefully at the age of 93, in her home of 63 years, surrounded by love, on November 2nd, 2025.
Maria was born January 20th, 1932, in Cerdal, Valenca do Minho, Portugal. She came to the United States as a 7-year-old child. Maria will be remembered for her beautiful smile, gentle nature, and unwavering love of God and family. She enjoyed laughter, music, gardening, preparing family meals, her monthly hair appointment and long drives on a beautiful day. She was always available to talk and loved to reminisce about days gone by.
Maria was the devoted wife of John T. Oliveira for nearly 72 years. She is survived by her loving husband John Thomas. She is also survived by daughter Ann Elizabeth of South Dartmouth, grandsons Gabriel Abram of South Dartmouth, Jacob Andrew and his partner Paige and their daughter Olivia Rose of Rochester, MA, and Isaac Elijah of Rochester, MA. In addition, she is survived by youngest daughter Maria Elena and her husband Eric Rancourt of Lakeville, MA, grandson Ryan Garrett of Portland, ME., Joshua Rancourt and his wife Erika and their daughter Nora Kathryn of New Bedford, MA. Maria was pre-deceased by her eldest daughter, Dona Maria of Dartmouth, MA.
Maria spent the last 2 years of her life under the caring and watchful eyes of Compassionate Care Hospice, to which her family is forever grateful.
Maria’s sharp sense of humor, beautiful singing voice and love for those around her will be deeply missed. She embraced the quiet pleasures of life, especially those of wife and mother. She was an avid reader, and her enviable gardens were her sanctuary and the heart of her home. Every spring moving forward will be a tangible reminder of the beauty she left for us. The world has lost a bright light, but we will carry with us the irreplaceable memories of which she will always be a part.
You are welcome to join us for a brief graveside service. Maria’s ashes will be blessed and buried at The Veterans Cemetery @ Thompson Hill Cemetery, Rhode Island Road (RT.79) Lakeville, MA on Wednesday November 12, 2025, at 11:00am. Burial service will be followed by a celebration of her life at her home, 5 Baker Lane in Lakeville, MA. All are welcome to bring smiles, laughter and memories.
