Martha Ingersoll Obituary

Martha C. Ingersoll, age 81, of Lakeville, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, after a prolonged battle with progressive lung disease. Born on June 5, 1944, in Medford, Massachusetts, she was the beloved daughter of the late Concetta L. (D'Alessandro) and Robert G. Ingersoll. Martha attended Medford High School and dedicated over thirty years of her life to serving as a Customer Service Representative for Delta Airlines, where she was well respected and cherished by her colleagues.

Martha was the loving wife of the late Mark Downing, and together they shared countless joyful memories. A passionate world traveler, she explored vast corners of the globe, from Europe to Africa and beyond, including remarkable journeys to Tibet, China, and Australia. Her zest for life extended to boating, as she enjoyed many summer days at the Winthrop Yacht Club and later at the Charles River Yacht Club.

Martha had a profound love for cooking and reading, and her humor and spirited nature touched the lives of all who knew her. She is predeceased by her cherished husband, Mark, and her dear brothers, Robert and Michael. Martha is survived by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ingersoll of California; Denise Ingersoll of Arlington; stepson Ross and Mary Downing of Milton, along with their children, Madeline and Conor; stepson James Downing of Boston; sister-in-law Elise (Downing) and Michael Dionne of Rockland; sister-in-law Susan Downing of Weymouth; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins
