Sunrise April 12, 1969 - Sunset April 24, 2022
Mary Elizabeth Bowers, affectionately called “Betsy”, went home to be with the lord on April 24, 2022, at her home in New Bedford, MA. She was the wife of the late James (Jimmy) Crandal and the daughter Judith T. (O’Neill) Bowers of Jackson, NH, and the late Robert E. Bowers. Betsy grew up in Lakeville, MA, and graduated from Apponequet Regional High School, where she was voted “most popular” by her senior class, 1987. Following her high school graduation, Betsy worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide, CNA, and recently she began a cleaning business with the help of Anita Taylor, a close friend who cared deeply for Betsy. Betsy’s favorite time of year was summertime, beaching, boating, campfires and starlite nights. Betsy enjoyed going to the Xfinity Center to see pop stars with her friend Myles Sampson and local bands with Charlene Machado, a special woman who was an understanding loving friend. Betsy didn’t attend church regularly, but in later years she became a close follower of the Lord Jesus and loved Scripture and with the help of, (auntie), she would apply Scripture to her everyday actions. Patricia Silva, another close friend was her prayer partner, they met often for intercessory prayer. Patricia also went to the gym with her weekly. Betsy enjoyed summers in her younger years frolicking lakeside with her cousins Nathaniel Bagge of Pocasset, MA, the late Matthew Bagge and her God child Stephanie Bagge with their mother Colleen, Betsy’s auntie. In the fall, Betsy and her brother, dad and mother enjoyed the family pet pony named buttons. They would joyfully pile into the pony cart and Buttons would take them through the property trails. Also in the fall, Betsy enjoyed school shopping sprees at the North Dartmouth Mall with her mother…Betsy, as a matter of fact, enjoyed shopping with mom anytime. When school started her dad would diligently take her to High School every morning and drop her off at the front door and sometimes, she would go in the front door and then simply, go out the back! Teenagers! Winter brought more enjoyment with weekend trips to the family chalet in Bartlett, NH. Betsy was an avid skier, Mt. Attitash being her favorite. Betsy is also survived by her brother Robert (Bodie) Bowers of Bartlett, NH, her uncle Nicholas O’Neill of Skien, Norway, and her “Auntie” Colleen O’Neill of Taunton, MA. Betsy will be sadly missed by those who knew her caring heart and shoulder to lean on, her keen sense of humor and helping hand. A private graveside service will be held for Betsy where she will be laid to rest with her beloved Dad, at Sampson Cemetery in Lakeville, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local ASPCA shelter, or to Adult & Teen Challenge of Massachusetts, 20 Clifton Avenue, Brockton, MA 02301
