Matthew J. Gilbert

Matthew J. Gilbert, 33, passed away unexpectedly at his Lakeville home on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Born in Boston, MA, on June 5, 1991, he was the cherished son of William and Luanne (Godfrey) Gilbert, also of Lakeville. A 2009 graduate of Apponequet Regional High School, Matthew continued his education at Bridgewater State University and earned a certificate from MTTI's residential and commercial electrical program. He was happily employed as a service technician at OMNI Technology Solutions Inc.

An Eagle Scout, Matthew was a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank in 2010. His Eagle project contributed to the Lakeville Historical Commission, creating and installing markers for historical sites in the town.

Matt's joy was found in the company of his family, friends, and beloved dogs, Jazz, Finnegan, and Sunny. At any family gathering "Funcle" Matt could be found "pretending" to be annoyed by his three nieces who adored him and were always eager to play with him. His childhood was filled with laughter, dance, and adventures with his older siblings. He grew to love movies, comedy, and gaming, hobbies he loved to share with those close to him.

He leaves behind his parents, Bill and Luanne; sister Jennifer Nevens and her husband Spenser of Bridgewater; brother Christopher Gilbert and his wife Jessica of New Bedford; nieces Leila, Gwendolyn, and Brixton; nephew Lachlan; his dog Sunny; and numerous cherished relatives and friends.

A memorial visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347. The funeral mass will take place on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Sts. Martha & Mary Church, 354 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Lakeville Animal Shelter 8 Montgomery Street Lakeville, MA 02347 in memory of Matt.
