Matthew Lawrence Tobin, aged 68, of Lakeville, MA, passed away after a brief illness on December 25, 2025. Born on April 11, 1957, in Newport, RI, he was the cherished son of the late Arthur F. Tobin and Mary Frances Tobin.
Matthew is lovingly remembered by his mother, Mary Frances, and his daughter, Abigail "Abster" Tobin, who brought profound joy and pride to his life. He is also survived by his siblings: Michael Tobin, Brian Tobin and his husband Bill Short, Laura Mercer, and Jason Tobin and his partner, Lynne. The family circle is completed by his beloved nephew and niece, Drury Mercer and Lily Mercer, along with many cherished cousins.
A proud graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, Matthew dedicated many years of his life to serving as the Maintenance Supervisor at the same institution, until his retirement in 2018. He was known for his unwavering dedication to those he worked with and the school community.
Matthew had a passion for life that transcended the ordinary; he savored the thrill of motorcycle riding, snowmobiling, and indulged in his love for race cars. His loyalty, quick wit, and engaging sense of humor endeared him to everyone who crossed his path. He cultivated deep friendships and built a life rich with love and laughter, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
In remembrance of Matt, family and friends are encouraged to honor him by sharing stories, raising a toast with a Bud, and smiling-just as he would have wished to be remembered.
A private burial will occur at a future date, with a celebration of life ceremony to be announced for all who wish to gather and pay tribute to his remarkable life.
In this time of loss, may we find comfort in the memories we hold dear and the legacy of love that Matthew leaves behind.
